A service created for the protagonists of archaeology (museums, State archaeological services, excavation missions and archaeological cooperatives).

LychnoBase is a database with a photographic library. This service aims to put together a vast international catalog on ancient lighting devices. Up to now, only 100’000 ancient lamps have been published, whereas several millions are still lying dormant in the warehouses of museums and archaeological services.

LychnoServices offers its inventory and photography service to any institution (museums, archaeological services) housing ancient lamps or candelabras, through a yearly subscription fee priced according to the number of models to be inventoried.

The data volume and the interactivity make it easier to set up research hypotheses about production, typologies, exportation and trade of lighting devices…

LychnoBase will be accessible through the internet with a simple password. This password will be delivered free of charge to ILA members and partner institutions, and charged to individuals, libraries and universities on the basis of a yearly subscription.
